The official language of ESCV 2020 is English.
In September, time zone in Manchester is British Summer Time which is 1 hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT +1).
Manchester has a generally mild climate with no extremes. The warmest months are July and August with an average temperature of 20°C, and the coldest months are December, January and February with an average temperature of 4°C. On average there are 152 days per year with rain and an average of 86.71 cms of rain per year.
In September, the daytime temperature range changes between 12°C and 20°C.
In September, to cover all eventualities, it is recommended visitors pack a sweater, good walking shoes, sunscreen, sunglasses, a compact umbrella and/or a light rain coat.
The dress code for ESCV 2020 is business formal or business casual for all occasions unless stated otherwise.
CURRENCY & EXCHANGE
The official currency of the United Kingdom is the pound sterling, known as the pound (£, GBP). Each pound is divided into 100 pence (100p = £1).
The most common banknotes are £5, £10, £20, £50 and £100.
The coins in circulation are 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p, 20p, 50p and £1 and £2.
You can change money at the following places:
- any bank office
- exchange offices in the airport and within the city
- major hotels
- withdrawal from ATMs
Credit & Debit Cards: The safest and easiest form of money is credit cards. Major credit cards (MasterCard, Visa and American Express) are accepted in most restaurants / cafes / facilities.
Cash Withdrawal: It is possible to withdraw pounds directly from any ATM in Manchester. This is also the cheapest option, since it has a lower exchange rate. However, it is important to keep in mind that your own bank may charge you a fee each time you use a foreign ATM.
It is recommended to have a small amount of cash on hand upon arrival in United Kingdom for immediate expenses, i.e. taxies, city transportation etc.
In the United Kingdom the standard voltage is 230 V and the standard frequency is 50 Hz.The power plugs and sockets are of type G.
Unless you are from a country using G type plugs, please do not forget to bring your adapter to Manchester.
The UK has now left the EU. The current rules on travel and business for the UK and EU will continue to apply during the transition period which will end on December 31, 2020.
Therefore, Brexit is not going to affect preparations and any travel arrangements for ESCV 2020.
Every traveller must have a valid passport.
All participants should check the visa requirements prior to travel.
INVITATION LETTER FOR VISA PURPOSES
Participants who require a signed and stamped letter are kindly requested to contact Ms. Lara Volkan, Registration & Accommodation Specialist at email@example.com. Please make sure to provide your full name (as printed in your passport), passport number, issue and expiry dates, and full postal address in order to get your invitation letter.
Applications for invitation letters from the Secretariat must be received at least 8 weeks prior to the Conference.
Unfortunately, we are unable to send invitation letters directly to consulates. Invitation letters are prepared solely for individuals and are sent directly to them.
HOW TO GET THERE
Participants of ESCV 2020 can travel to Manchester by plane, train or car.
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION WITHIN THE CITY
Manchester is a very compact city and most places are within easy walking distance. There is also a very practical and well-planned public transportation network in Manchester.
You can stay connected and share your experiences with the free wifi at certain places within the city including some streets, council owned buildings and some public transportation vehicles.

The Conference Organising Secretariat and Organisers cannot accept liability for personal accidents or loss of or damage to private property of participants. Upon registration, participants agree that neither the ESCV, the Local Organising Committee nor the Conference Organising Secretariat assumes any liability.
Participants are advised to take out their own personal travel and health insurance for their trip.
SAFETY & SECURITY
Please do not leave bags or suitcases unattended at any time, whether inside or outside the session halls. Hotels strongly recommend that you use their safety deposit boxes for your valuables.
